Lesson Two:  How to Enter Your Team Information

Overview:  Whenever a viewer selects your team from the "Teams/Rosters" link on the Main Menu, they will be taken to a page that contains various kinds of information about your team and also includes your roster (more on that later.)  This is your "Team Home Page."  It includes the name of your team, the names of your coaches (and their contact info if you desire), your current overall win-loss record, the results of your last game and the date of your next game.  There are also some optional items that you can add to this page, including a team photo, a team logo, information about your sponsor, a link to your website and whatever text description of your team that you may wish to add.

1.  Your administrative password allows you to not only edit and add to your team information but also to create opponents who may not already be in the system, such as opponents at out-of-state tournaments.

2.  To access your Team Home Page, click on the "Team Info" link in the Team Setup portion of the Admin Menu.

3.  I initially setup your team with very minimal information, usually just the Team Name only.  So when you click on the "Team Info" link on the Admin Menu, it will take you into the "Team Editor" page where you will be able to modify and add to the information that I had entered.  I would request that you please follow the naming convention of having your summer team name followed by the spring season name or school name in parentheses since sponsors names do change from time to time.

In the top block of items, please note that you can put a team logo or team photo on your home page.  To see an example of a team logo, after exiting out of Admin, go to the Oakview Construction (Skutt) home page (Senior Legion division).  Above you can also see that a photo with a file name of Eagles_juniors_team_photo.jpg has been uploaded and added to the Team Home Page.  The process of uploading files will be covered in a later lesson.  (The Photo Width field is to designate the width of the photo on your home page.  Zero means full frame width.  You can experiment by putting in larger numbers to find the size that works best for your photo.)

Also please note that you must check the "Display Statistics" checkbox if you want individual stats to appear on your Team Home Page.

A word about coaches email addresses and phone numbers:  if you fill those in on this page, they will be accessible to the public on the Website.  Please check with your check whether he wants you to post his information.

4.  As you scroll down the "Team Editor" page, you will see a large free form text box entitled "Comments."  You can use this for any kind of information that you would like to provide about your team, such as the following:

- team nickname

- team colors

- spring record

- team accomplishments (such as won a particular tournament or won the state championship in the spring)

- a word or two about your sponsor

- the league and/or area that you play in

- the schools that your players attend

- basically anything that you'd like to tell someone about your team so that they are more familiar with who you are and the history and traditions of your program.

The Comments box is a very flexible area where you can put all kinds of information about your team.  You don't have to follow a particular format, but I would think all of the above items would be very appropriate.  Also, if you happen to be handy with html, you can plug some in here and check out the results.  For example, if OPPD were your sponsor, you can copy and paste the following if you wanted to include a link to OPPD's website (change URL name and Sponsor name as appropriate):

<a href="http://www.oppd.com">Omaha Public Power District</a>

This would display the words "Omaha Public Power District" as a hyperlink in the Comments portion of your website.  You could also do the same thing to create a link to your school's website if you wish.

You can also use the following bit of code to put a particular word, phrase or sentence in a bold font (basically, everything between the > and the < will be in bold font):  <b>words you want in bold font</b>

These are just a couple of little things you can do to spice up your team home page.

When you are done with your changes, you will need to "save" them by clicking on the "save" button on the bottom of the page or the small "floppy disk icon" at the top left of the page.  Your changes will not be effective unless you save them.
