LESSON SIX: HOW TO ENTER YOUR ROSTER
Overview: The Summer Teams Database allows
you to input your roster and add information about each player on your team,
including their game by game statistics. In order to complete the
roster information, you will need the following information about your
players: Name, uniform number, birth month and year, height, weight, position(s) played, bats right, left or switch, throws right or left and
other types of optional information that you would like to enter about the
player. (How much information you enter about a player is up to you and your
coach. At a minimum we would like to have name, uniform number and
positions played.)
| 1. From
the Admin Menu select "Players" under "Team Setup." |
 |
| 2. Select your
Division and your Team from the drop-down menus. Then click on the
"Add Player" button at the right side of the blue bar below the Team
Name. |
 |
| 3. This takes you to
the "Player Editor - Add New Player" screen where you can enter various
types of information about the player. Start by putting in the
Player's First Name, Last Name and birth month and year. Please
leave the day of the birth month left at "1" for privacy reasons.
Display of the birth month and year are optional, although it is likely
that this is information that a college recruiter would like to see.
If you do not want to display these, leave the birthdate set as "January
1, 1900" and the birthdate will not appear on the website. For
positions, please use the following abbreviations: P, C, INF, OF
and Util. If you want to be more specific and use positions
such as 1B, 3B, LF, that's up to you. |
 |
|
4. If you are planning
to enter and display statistics for each player, then check the "Display
Statistics" box (See Lesson 10 for more information on entering
stats). You also have the option to display an individual
picture of each player. This could be either a posed "headshot" or
an action photo. If you elect this option, it will require that a
digital image file for each player be uploaded using the "File
Uploads" process that is discussed in Lesson 8. Each
player photo file will need to be named so that you can readily identify
the team and player, such as PrimeTime_Jones.jpg. The Photo
Filename dropdown selection list on the Player Editor will show you all
files on the system. You can then choose the file for this player.
Set the photo width to "150" for a nice wallet-size photo. |
 |
|
5. The
"Comments" box is a large "free form" area when you can display
information about the player such as baseball honors and awards, other
personal achievements, such as Eagle Scout or Honor Roll, and possible
career interests or personal objectives. All of this information
is optional and may be formatted as you choose. Please note that
just like the "Comment" boxes that we have seen in other lessons, this
one will accept html code for adding hyperlinks and other kinds of
special formatting (bold, etc.) This is an area where you can be
creative and dress up your site. Please be mindful that this
information will be available world-wide on the internet.
Therefore, use appropriate precautions regarding the disclosure of
personal information. Do not publish player's email addresses,
phone numbers, addresses or parent's names. The type of
information published should not be more personal than would typically
appear in a newspaper interview article about the player. |
|
6. When
you have completed entering information about the player, click "Save"
and go on to the next player. You can edit Player Information at
any time by selecting the player's name on the "Players" page and
selecting "Edit." Make the desired changes on the "Player Editor"
page and click "Save." |
